Blog # 1: A reflection on my writing experience using the electronic environment vs. using the traditional writing material.

Writing using the electronic environment has made writing much easier and faster for me.  This has changed the way I approach writing.  The use of digital tools such as Microsoft office, emails, text messages or social media platforms like tweeter has helped make the writing process more flexible and even more interactive than the traditional pen and paper method of writing.  I have benefitted from the ease of editing and revising written pieces without having to rewrite an entire document when using the electronic environment.   Digital tools can check for spelling and grammatical errors which helps me create more professional pieces if the need arises, while simultaneously helping me improve language accuracy and writing mechanics.  This helps improve the overall quality of my work, making it easier to focus on other tasks such as organising and developing ideas.

On the contrary, pen and paper writing is more permanent.  Once something is written, it is difficult for me to correct my mistakes without crossing out or rewriting an entire section.  This results in untidy, messy written pieces making it difficult for persons to read.  Additionally, it takes me a longer time to complete written tasks, making the entire process go slower than expected.

Another benefit of using the electronic environment in writing is the convenience of storage for my written pieces.  I can easily save my files then access them from any other device or location.  This reduces the risk of documents getting lost or destroyed and makes it convenient to continue writing from anywhere at any time suitable for me.

Traditional writing, on the other hand, is physical.  It does not lend itself to the luxury of easy storage, making it easy for my documents to be misplaced or destroyed.

Both forms of writing are valuable in their own way and assists in enhancing the level of my writing.  The use of electronic environments emphasises speed and convenience of storage while the traditional pen and paper emphasises caution while writing, enabling close reflection of what I write.  I prefer writing using the electronic environment because it supports accuracy, acting as a guide in making my writing more feasible for everyone who may read it.  What is your take on this?share your thoughts after listening to this short video on the use of technology in this modern era.

    1. I completely agree with your assessment of electronic writing environments! The benefits of digital tools, such as ease of editing and revising, are undeniable. The ability to check for spelling and grammatical errors, as well as the convenience of storage and accessibility, have changed the writing process. While traditional writing methods have their value, the flexibility and speed of electronic writing make it an indispensable tool for writers. What are your favorite digital writing tools?

    2. i like the grammar check, sometimes in the haste of writing we tend to use incorrect grammar unconsciously. the fact that technology could fix this is awesome, it could also help students when writing as well

  2. before doing a final draft i have to..its compulsory that i write on scrap first before finally going to the computer to do a final draft. what amazes me is that even while doing the final draft i make alot of changes, i always find something else to add. this is quite intriguing for me, because it shows that writing is a continuous process

  3. When writing, knowing what works for us is of utmost importance. I like that you have clearly found what works for you. With speed, accuracy and professional presentation being top priority for you, I understand why you prefer the digital platform. One thing I have overlooked in relation to digital tools is storage and accessibility. Being able to the ability to access and share your work from anywhere can truly transform how we write and collaborate. However, the notion that traditional writing is "messy" or "inefficient" is really a visible record of your thinking process. While we may want to hold onto our pens and paper, in this technological era, the digital tools seem to be preferred by the younger generation.

    1. Hello Curlyn, I must commend you on this week’s blog post, and I agree with your insights about writing on electronic platforms such as Microsoft Word, email, or tweets. I really appreciate your perspective on how the electronic environment serves as a supportive tool that allows writers to edit, revise, and publish their work with ease. Additionally, I would like to add that this environment promotes instant communication with large and distant audiences through emails and social media, making it a highly efficient and interactive medium. As educators, we can use this advantage to help our students experience the same benefits and build greater confidence in their writing.
      Great blog! Keep posting!

  4. Curlyn, the benefits that comes from writing in the electronic medium are truly astounding and numerous. I personally cannot go back to a world with only traditional writing. I acknowledge the many benefits of traditional writing and love it dearly, but cannot imagine how I will survive in academia especially with only traditional writing. And I will not give up emails and other instant means of communicating to go back to handwritten letters that get struck in the snail mail post office. So, I agree that electronic is the way forward.

  5. It's interesting how you've benefited from the electronic environment evolving from the use of traditional tools such as pen and paper into a smooth transition of effectively using electronic tools such as Microsoft office, emails, etc. I admire the fact that the difficulties you encountered during the transitional phase afforded you the option to a preference that's quite convenient and comfortable for you as a writer. Interesting sentiments!

  6. I totally see your point. Technology makes writing faster, easier to edit, and more polished, and the convenience of storage and sharing is a huge plus. But at the same time, it can be distracting with notifications, it sometimes feels less personal than handwriting, and there’s always the risk of technical issues or losing files. I guess that’s why both digital and traditional writing have their own strengths and weaknesses, it’s about finding the balance that works best.
