The Writing Process

The writing process can be tedious ,but with proper planning it can be made fun. The bulk of work when writing is done in the planning phase. It is being said that 70% of the time spent writing is actually spent planning. This is rather interesting, because before doing this course I often wondered why even if writing topics within my business subjects seemed to fall within the interests of students they always seemed not to know what to write. This course highlighted that lack of proper planning can prevent students from writing effective pieces. I am not currently an English teacher, but on my return to the classroom, information on the writing process and how to effectively use it to engage students in writing would be an asset. I am excited to see results from use of this and excited to get my students writing again. Also, this course would assist me at home with my children. Being a mother of mostly boys, getting them to write is rather difficult since they hardly want to read thus ideas are limited. I intend to use ideas learned in this course to engage them in meaningful planning and writing

  2. It's great that you've gained valuable insights from the course! The writing process can indeed be a game-changer for students and even for your own children at home. I'm sure your boys will benefit from engaging writing activities that spark their creativity. Best of luck in implementing these new strategies in both your teaching and parenting! I see it helping me as well to improve my writing.

  3. Your reflection on the writing process is very insightful. I agree with you that planning often makes the biggest difference in how smoothly the actual writing goes. Many students struggle when writing because they want to skip straight to writing without giving enough time to organize their thoughts. Using these strategies with your own children is a great idea, especially since, as you said, boys often resist writing if they do not feel inspired. With planning, writing is less intimidating and more engaging. I look forward to hearing how your students respond once you put these techniques into practice.

  4. I commend you on the information that you shared in your reflection, and I must agree with your sentiments that the planning stage is critical. Many students do not see the value of planning and prefer to write without planning, then plan after they have written. However, as teachers, we must emphasize that great writers plan.

  5. It is interesting how the writing process can be used in many different ways. I like the fact that you will implement it with your children. As the parent of boy, I to will use this as well. But more, as an English teacher, using the process will be instrumental in helping the students to write better pieces.
